Research Questions

How does technology affect sleep? “I need to watch an episode of tv before bed” “I use it too much before bed and prevents me from going to bed” “I use music (white noise) to fall asleep” How does technology affect the way students learn in modern day society? “Online textbooks allows you to have all your content in one spot” “It makes it easier to do research online than at the library” “Emailing teachers rather than seeing them in person for a question is a lot more convenient.” How does technology affect our everyday life? “I use my alarm to wake me up every morning” “I use Google maps and waze everyday, without those apps i would get lost all the time.” “I am addicted to social media and can never focus on my work” The type and appearance of my questions are centered around children and sleep. The appearance of my questions are short and to the point. I asked my three questions to friends in my dorm and they were pretty engaged and interes...

Unit 1 Reflection

I feel that the quality of my three sources are up to par and follow the class inquiry and my research. My first curated source that I chose, discussed the affects of technology on sleep. Stemming from tuck.com, this article ponders upon how technology use has other effects that are not always positive. “ In this article we’ll explore the various ways technology truly impacts sleep, how it affects children versus adults” . My first source focused primarily on technology in sleep and that is quality to me because it is focused on technology and another subject in depth with lots of data and information. This source provides many facts and details to support their points and argument, and how to solve issues regarding technology.I felt this was a quality source because often people do research on how technology has developed and grown. This article shows how technology has not always developed in a beneficial way. My second source I found was a blog from businessinsider.com. I felt that...

Free Writes Unit 1

Image
I chose this free write because I felt it was the most interesting and intriguing. This free write was the most out of the ordinary and unique. I thought its was cool how we wrote about something that was not about ourselves or writing or class.

Unit 1 Draft

Dennis Baron - Pencils to Pixels: Genre - The genre of Baron’s article was a scholarly article that referenced the history of how the technology of a pencil has advanced to the computer. The genre influenced this article by giving reference to all the small steps it took over past centuries a pencil has transformed into the technology we have today. I feel it succeeded because it gave a good representation of what technology used to be. This source fits into our inquiry because it shows directly how writing technology has advanced. “We have a way of getting so used to writing technologies that we come to think of them as natural rather than technological.” https://www.tuck.com/how-does-technology-affect-sleep/ How Does Technology Affect Sleep? Genre - This is a research article from tuck.com analyzing the ways technology affect sleep. The project influenced this genre because I was curious of the negative effects of technology rather than just the benefits. I think it suc...

Surveys/Polls/Quizzes

https://www.buzzfeed.com/samstryker/fast-food-age-quiz   I chose to take a quiz on buzzfeed.com, called “ This Fast Food Quiz Can Guess Your Actual Age”. I scored the age of 43, which is obviously inaccurate; I am 20 years old. I shared the link with five of my floor mates, and none of them got an age that was accurate. My roommate scored thirty-six years old. My friend Jordan took the quiz and scored 43 years old, the same score as me. His roommate, Jake, took the quiz for me as well and scored 36 years old too. At this point I started thinking that this quiz was poorly designed because four people have taken it so far and two of them received the same score. Then I had my other friend, Hunter, take the quiz and he proved me that there are more than two results possible. Hunter got 27 years old, which is not too far off from our age group. I feel that this quiz in particular had not enough questions in order to differentiate answers enough. When quizzes lack answers or everyb...

What I do before class: 1.) Brush my teeth 2.) Shower 3.) Eat breakfast or lunch 4.) Check my backpack to make sure I have all I need 5.) Put my jacket on and walk to class Selfies in our society today are viewed in many different ways due to the different ways people use technology. Selfies are an easy way to capture a moment or image. Selfies have been taken too far; some younger people take selfies everyday, even when they are walking or in class. Selfies have changed a lot of people’s persona because selfies of them are on the internet or social media. LinkedIn and Instagram both have forced people in society to expose selfies of themselves exposing images of them to the world. Selfies are dangerous in a few ways. Photos and video capabilities today have caused many issues to people in terms of getting in trouble or being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In professional sports, athletes have recently been becoming guilty of crimes o...
