Unit 1 Reflection

I feel that the quality of my three sources are up to par and follow the class inquiry and my research. My first curated source that I chose, discussed the affects of technology on sleep. Stemming from tuck.com, this article ponders upon how technology use has other effects that are not always positive. “In this article we’ll explore the various ways technology truly impacts sleep, how it affects children versus adults”. My first source focused primarily on technology in sleep and that is quality to me because it is focused on technology and another subject in depth with lots of data and information. This source provides many facts and details to support their points and argument, and how to solve issues regarding technology.I felt this was a quality source because often people do research on how technology has developed and grown. This article shows how technology has not always developed in a beneficial way. My second source I found was a blog from businessinsider.com. I felt that this source was slightly less quality because it was less intellectual. This blog pointed out the features our technology offers that is revolutionary. “But we'd be left scrambling if all of our innovations, from our smartphones to our high-speed internet, ceased to operate.”This article brings you back to the times where technology wasn’t as advanced and everyday tasks weren’t as easy. While the blog at first seems elementary, the points that they discuss were low-key shocking inventions that changed the game of technology. After reading this source, you certainly feel 10 times older and more mature. My third source is a blog that was written by Victoria Van Ness on wehavekids.com. This blog was a detailed analysis on the positive and negative effects of technology on children. This source I feel is extremely quality due to the thoroughness and opposing points it offers on both the positive and negative effects. This is quality to me, because it provides facts and interesting points to two different sides of the situation. “Technology can have many benefits for kids when used correctly and under supervision, but many just use it as a babysitter for their kids because they don’t have the time or the interest in playing with their children.” This was an argument the author brought up that struck my attention and I feel that a whole research paper can be written about it. The ideas and insight that the author provided a new look on technology for me and is clearly quality. This last source really made me think and debate the benefits of technology and the appropriate dosage level of it.

I used technology to enhance my project by using my laptop and google to find my sources. Without the internet I would not be able to research technology at the tip of my fingertips. Having sources pop-up is an incredible tool that makes research and writing a lot easier and quicker than using the library. Technology also saved me time during this assignment making citations. MLA format citations rules are all over the internet, and there are many tools you can use to assist you. Technology ultimately revamped the way current day students study and do their work compared to their parents and elders. Let alone completing the actual assignment, being able to connect with classmates and read their blogs and comment has made this assignment clearer for me. My research provides insight on whether our technology use is too much, and this question has made me think of all the technology I have used for this assignment; technology is certainly rapidly growing and becoming more accessible.

I feel that my research covers my topic well because it looks over the dangers and effects technology has to offer. Later on if I have more time, I would like to do more research to find data of sat scores with high schoolers now and 50 year olds to compare the advantages technology has to offer in the learning process. I am not sure if these tests have taken place, but this would help me conclude on whether technology is truly worth the potential dangers they have to offer.

I can see myself using some of my sources in my next unit assignments because I feel that the prompt can be applicable to some of my sources. In unit 2 assignment, you evolve a claim and I feel that my first and second source can provide intriguing ideas for a claim/thesis. My second source will be helpful for supporting points as well.

  1. Like how you analyzed that your sources could be used for units in the future. In addition, I like how you mentioned your use of technology throughout the project. Jake Zeidman
